What sizes do pultruded carbon fiber rods and strips come in?

Standard pultruded carbon fiber rods range from 0.5 mm^[1] to 5.0 mm in diameter^[2]. Standard strips range from 0.2 × 2 mm^[3] to 6 × 30 mm^[4]. Every standard size is 1000 mm long, and other sizes and lengths can be made to order^[5][6].

Which rod diameters are standard?

• Fine rods: 0.5, 0.6, 0.7 and 0.8 mm^[7][8][9].
• Light frames and stiffeners: 1.0, 1.2, 1.3, 1.5, 1.6 and 1.8 mm^{[10][11][12][13][14][15]}.
• Heavier spars: 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 5.0 mm^[16][17][18].

Which strip sizes are standard?

Strips are listed as thickness × width.

• Thin strips: 0.2 × 2, 0.3 × 3, 0.5 × 3, 0.5 × 5 and 0.5 × 10 mm^{[19][20][21][22]}.

Why pultruded?

Pultrusion pulls continuous fiber through resin and a heated die. The fibers all run along the length, which gives rods and strips high stiffness and strength along their length and consistent dimensions^[34]. For bending loads, a pultruded rod or strip is usually the lightest solid option. For twisting or crushing loads, ask about a tube instead.
